Parametric kinematic tolerance analysis of planar mechanisms

چکیده
We present an efficient algorithm for worst-case and statistical kinematic tolerance analysis of mechanisms with parametric part tolerances. The algorithm derives the kinematic variation directly from the part geometry, the part degrees of freedom, and the allowable parameter variations. It first derives a geometric representation of the kinematic variation as parametric surfaces in the mechanism configuration space. It then performs sensitivity analysis on the surfaces and combines the results. In addition to traditional quantitative variations, the results reveal qualitative variations, such as play, under-cutting, interference, and jamming. Our implementation handles planar mechanisms with one degree of freedom per part, including ones with higher pairs and multiple contacts. It is fast enough to be practical for full parametric models of complex mechanisms and for parametric representations of geometric tolerances, such as offsets, which typically require many parameters. The algorithm extends to linkage mechanisms when coupled with linkage analysis software. We demonstrate the implementation on a 26 parameter model of a Geneva pair and on an 82 parameter model of a camera shutter mechanism. Computer-Aided Design, 29(5), 333–342, 1997. This paper describes a framework and algorithms for robust kinematic design of mechanical assemblies. The framework, developed over a period of ten years, is based on the configuration space method and supports automatic modeling, nominal and toleranced analysis, and part tolerance envelope computation of open and closed loop planar mechanisms with multiple, changing contacts. It also supports ...

The method covers fixed and changing contact mechanisms with parametric or geometric part tolerances. We develop a new model of kincmaLic variation, called kinematic tolerance space, that generalizes the ...

We present an algorithm for functional kinematic tolerance analysis of general planar mechanical systems with parametric tolerances. The algorithm performs worst-case analysis of systems of curved parts with contact changes, including open and closed kinematic chains. It computes quantitative variations and helps designers detect qualitative variations, such as blocking and under-cutting. The a...

We describe a framework for robust kinematic design based on tolerance analysis and parametric design via configuration space manipulation. The input is a parametric model of a planar mechanical system comprised of lower and higher kinematic pairs in open or closed loops. The robust synthesis task is to find a nominal design that functions correctly despite small parameter variations. This task...
